QUETTA: An unknown armed man killed a tribal elder in Khuzdar town, officials said on Friday.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Mir Kamran Khan Jattak, was sitting at a hotel in the Chamrok area along the Quetta-Karachi National Highway with friends when the assailant opened fire with an automatic weapon.

Mr Jattak died instantly after sustaining multiple bullet wounds. Rhe attacker escaped after the shooting, police said.

Police moved the body to the district hospital in Khuzdar, where doctors confirmed Mr Jattak’s death.

The body was later handed over to the family after completion of medico-legal formalities.

The cause of the killing has not yet been ascertained. However, police said an “old enmity could not be ruled out” as a possible motive.

Mr Jattak was a close relative of Younis Aziz Zehri, the opposition leader in the Balochistan Assembly, as well as several other tribal elders in Khuzdar.

Police said an investigation is underway, but no arrests have been made so far.
